The nearby personnel door can remain available for everyday pedestrian movement and emergency escape. Clear signage, emergency lighting, alarm arrangements, and regular checks then support the wider escape plan.
Electric roller shutters may be useful where staff and deliveries use the opening throughout the day. However, powered operation doesn’t make the shutter a fire exit. Manual override controls and backup arrangements may improve reliability, but they don’t replace a suitable escape design.
If an existing shutter has failed, jammed, or been damaged, keep people away from the opening and arrange an urgent repair. A partially raised shutter can create a security risk and may also obstruct normal access or evacuation.
